Emerald Cedars at Wide Spacing

Here is an example of a line of emerald cedars planted by a homeowner. Cedar Ontario was not involved in this project but it is a great example to show one of the main drawbacks of using emerald cedars as a hedging cedar.

These emerald cedars were spaced too far apart to act as a privacy hedge. Since emerald cedars do not grow much wider than 2-3’ wide, this row of trees will always have gaps in between the trees.

Emerald cedar will also always have gaps at the top of the hedge as the tips of these trees naturally grow to a conical, pointed tip and remain that way for their lifespan.

If your goal is full privacy, use a tree for your privacy hedge that provides full privacy. Use trees that grow into each other, filling all the gaps and creating a green wall. Eastern white cedar is the tree that will provide this full coverage for your hedging project.

Cedar Ontario provides healthy eastern white cedar and provides hedge installation services and white cedars for delivery. Contact us today for help on your cedar hedge project.
